The other life of Franca, the Brazilian shoe capital

The city of Franca is famous for its huge shoe industry.  Over 1.000 factories are responsible for the biggest shoe production of all Latin America. But this big city (330,000 people), on the border of the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, still keeps lots of its traditions, here shown by the amazing pictures by Tiago Brandão, a  local photographic reporter.

  1. I would like to see a article on the history of the shoe industry in Brazil, then and now. My son is in the shoe industry in China and he tells me there are a lot of Brazilions there . They even have a Brazilion restaurant where he is.

    • Ricardo, I definitely like your idea. It will take a while, though, it is sort of time consuming, but I will keep it in mind. Thanks for the tip.

  2. The shoe industry is quite interesting – I spoke with one on my relatives the other day and he told me they went to Brazil for a danish company named Ecco – today it is very big in Scandinavia.

    • I hope to publish soon, Daniel and Ricardo, a bunch of posts about industries where Brazil excels, including this one. Some are pretty unheard of – such as Bible printing.
