“Dança dos Arcos” by Maracatu Nação Pernambuco
Created by college students in the late 80s, Maracatu Nação Pernambuco is one of the main promoters of maracatu culture overseas. The group had also a key role in the revival of this tradition, until then circumscribed to the cities of Olinda and Recife, in the state of Pernambuco. You might question if their interpretation of maracatu, the traditional street procession of a king, his queen and the court, followed by a percussion band, is really traditional, but you cannot deny the beauty of their work.
