I love simpatias – it is interesting how some people are somehow insulted by them, such as Francisco, that left a previous comment in this post. It is so therapeutic, just like entering some fantasy land. You simply have to be silly part of the time, or you won’t be sane when necessary.

Mom always tells this story: she did the simpatia of the names written in paper and threw them overnight in a basin full of water. She used to date a lot of men whose name’s first letter was J so she put a paper written “unknown J”. This was the one that opened and she was upset, because she had hopes for someone else there…

Well, she married my father, the unknown J. His name is kinda unusual. They’re married 38 years by my count.

The reason our “Valentine’s” Day is on June 12th is exactly because the 13th is Saint Anthony’s day and he is the patron of marriage and impossible deeds ;)
